Think before you speak, Im going down to city hall, and what to be accurate when find out information, for I have not found a law banning teaching a city/owned public course for a donation or for my time, not for the golf lessons….
Here’s why you can’t:

Every PGA teaching pro has to get certified with a “home course” listed on his card. Not many people will get lessons from someone who is not certified.

If you lie, sure you could get away with it, but you’ll get caught eventually and will have to find another golf course.

Technically, if you’re teaching without PGA certification, you’re not slowing pace of play and the golfer doesn’t care about PGA certification, then by all means teach.

I teach my kids on the golf course during slow times like late afternoons and no one bothers me. You can’t learn golf course golf on the driving range.

If this is one of those websites consumers go to and enter their reviews, no. That would be like me writing an article about deducting auto expenses, then writing off my personal vehicle expenses.

Your statement “I just want to deduct the cost of playing at other courses” is quite transparent. You don’t say anything about the expenses being necessary. You just “want” to write off the expenses.

Good luck with that. The IRS closely scrutinizes so-called “business” expenses for things like, oh, restaurants and golf courses.

If these were really necessary business expenses, you wouldn’t have to ask.
