This TaylorMade R9 Super Tri Driver is all about the forgiveness. TaylorMade have publicly stated that this club is both higher launch and higher spin that the original R9. This makes the SuperTri suitable for a much wider range of players since more than a few players were surprised with the low launch/low spin qualities of the R9. The R9 SuperTri sees the first time TaylorMade has combined adjustable face technology and adjustable weight positioning technology in a 460cc head. The Burner SuperFast's face increases the bulge and roll design to more effectively maximize forgiveness on off-center contact.
The TaylorMade R9 Super Tri Driver sleek head design of the SuperTri reduces wind drag in the downswing to increase swing speeds which translates into more distance. Inside the clubhead, Ultra-thin Wall technology reduces the wall thickness of the clubhead, relieving enough discretionary weight to allow for the implementation of both FCT and MWT in a 460cc clubhead.
Also contributing to the forgiving nature of this club is the Inverted Cone Technology, which has been found on TaylorMade drivers for quite a while now. In a nutshell, the Inverted Cone Technology promotes a faster ball speed, even when contact is made outside the sweet spot.
The Burner SuperFast also makes use of the Dual-Crown technology, which has been a major component of the Burner drivers for a couple of years now. The Dual-Crown technology effectively helps relocate the center of gravity low and deep, further promoting a higher launch and an increase in spin. The R9 SuperTri is equipped with a Fujikura Motore 60-gram shaft, which is five grams lighter than the Motore 65 used in the R9 driver. In addition to being lighter, the Motore 60 makes it easier to launch the ball on a higher launch angle and at a higher spin-rate, which helps many players achieve longer carry for increased distance.
